Whether you’ve been in business for a while or whether you’re just starting out, we’re all familiar with that niggling feeling. That feeling of self-doubt. That feeling of whether we can actually do this or if we’re better off throwing in the towel and get a ‘real’ job.
Many people actually give up when they’re so close. Often when you think you’re at your worst point in your business, it is actually the turning point towards greatness, but those who give up will never experience this.
Before you get to the point of quitting your business, I want to tell you this:
Know that it’s normal
You’re not the only one experiencing these feelings, we have all been there and go back there quite frequently. When we reach a new level in our business, new doubts and beliefs will pop up. Now that we know that this may happen, we can simply recognise the feelings, acknowledge them and move past.
Believe in yourself
The first thing to recognise, when you’re having doubts, is that your ego is trying to keep you safe. Moving past this means that you will need to work on your self belief and become your own cheerleader. Without self belief and the right mindset it will be a hard journey. Find a mentor, books or a course that will teach you the skills and tools needed to recognise the patterns and help you forward the next time you encounter doubt or limiting beliefs.
Learn from the journey
Like I said in point 1, feeling like this is normal. The only thing we can do with it is to learn from it. You will encounter feelings like this throughout your journey, but at each point you will grow and be able to move past it quicker because you are learning. Being in business is an adventure, sometimes you will get to stand on the edge of a cliff, and sometimes you’ll get to swim in a beautiful blue ocean. Both are part of the experience, both are there to help you grow, and both are beautiful in their own way.
Look at the bigger picture and remember your ‘why’
Sometimes we get so involved in the day to day running of our business that we forget the bigger picture, we forget why we started this journey. When you feel like quitting, go back to your why. Write down a list of why you started your business journey and refer to it every time you feel doubt creep up.
No, I don’t mean to surrender to the feeling of quitting and actually quitting. I mean surrendering to the feelings of doubt and taking some time away from your business to get back to yourself. Let the feelings flow, connect to them, learn from them and then take inspired action to move forward.
